To define a Smart Rule

  1. If you are not already in the Smart Rules interaction, click on Smart Rules in the ClearTrust SecureControl Manager Web UI to open the Smart Rules interaction.
  2. Click on the Application button to open the Select an Application interaction.
  3. In the Select an Application interaction, select the Application you want to protect or enable by clicking on the Use button next to the Application's name. The Smart Rules interaction will be re-displayed with the Application listed (or click on Cancel to return to the Smart Rules interaction without making any changes).
  4. Click on the Create button. The Create a Smart Rule interaction will be displayed:
  5. Click the Set button next to Application Function to choose the function you wish to enable or protect from a list of available functions:
  6. Click the Set button next to User Properties to choose the User Property on which you wish to base the Smart Rule from a list of available User Properties. Once you have selected a User Property, a Set button will appear next to the Property Value field.
  7. Click the Set button next to the Property Value field to enter a comparison value and choose a comparison criterion for the User Property. The Property Value and criterion choices will depend on the data type of the User Property.

  8. Use the Category pull-down to define the type of Smart Rule processing that you want to be applied to the rule. The three possible types are Allow, Deny, and Require. For more information about Allow, Deny and Require, see the Administrator's Guide.
  9. Click the Save button to save the Smart Rule and return to the Smart Rules interaction. The Smart Rule you created is now listed in the Smart Rules interaction.
